On July 15, the internet regulatory authorities announced newly added filing information for generative AI services on mobile devices. Seven services — Apple Intelligence, Huawei Xiaoyi AI Large Model, OPPO AndesGPT Large Model, vivo Blue Heart On-Device Large Model, Xiaomi Surge AI, Samsung Galaxy AI, and Nubia Doubao Phone Large Model — have completed their registration.
Judging from the list, the first batch of products to complete registration already covers mainstream phone manufacturers such as Apple, Huawei, OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, Samsung, and Nubia.
However, these seven mobile AIs look more like the first entrants.
According to industry insiders interviewed by All Weather Technology, other phone manufacturers, including Honor, are also advancing relevant registration work.
Meanwhile, participants in AI phones continue to expand.
On July 13, the AI large model startup Stepcare Star announced its AI terminal brand STEPX, and launched the large-model-native intelligent phone STEPX Neo, directly exploring the integration of models, operating systems, and phone hardware.
As generative AI capabilities accelerate their entry into phone systems, it is expected that more manufacturers and models will gradually complete registration in the future.
Overall, in the past two years phone manufacturers have been fiercely competing around AI. From AI erasing, call summaries, and document summarization, to screen understanding and cross-app task execution, large models are gradually embedding into the core interaction and operating system of phones.
But to move from function launch to large-scale openness, phone manufacturers still need to cross the hurdle of compliance.
According to the "Interim Measures for the Administration of Generative Artificial Intelligence Services," regulatory authorities, together with relevant departments, are carrying out generative AI service registrations in an orderly manner.
This concentrated registration means related mobile AI services are advancing another step toward implementation in the domestic market.
Compared to relying entirely on cloud calls, on-device large models can complete parts of inference and task processing locally on the phone, offering certain advantages in response speed, privacy protection, offline usage, and personalization.
The fact that these seven phone manufacturers have taken the lead in registration means AI competition for phones is moving beyond feature demonstrations at launch events towards compliant implementation and large-scale usage.
