Iran's attacks on commercial ships in the Gulf region continue to escalate, with the scope now extending to the territorial waters of Qatar.

According to CCTV News, on April 1 local time, Qatar’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that Qatar had suffered three cruise missile attacks from Iran. Qatar successfully intercepted two missiles, while the third struck an oil tanker leased by QatarEnergy that was anchored in Qatar’s northern territorial waters. The authorities promptly evacuated all 21 crew members from the ship, and no casualties were reported.

QatarEnergy later issued a statement confirming that its chartered tanker—Aqua 1—had been attacked by missile in the northern territorial waters of Qatar in the early morning hours. All crew members were unharmed, and the incident did not cause any environmental impact. So far, no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack.

After the attack, oil prices did not show any significant fluctuation. Due to the ceasefire signals released by the U.S. and Iran, oil prices declined noticeably today.

The attack targeting QatarEnergy’s tanker is the latest in a series of blows to commercial shipping in the Gulf region. Just one day prior, Kuwait Oil Company confirmed that a Kuwait oil tanker fully loaded with crude was attacked by Iran at the anchorage of Dubai port, causing fire and damage to the vessel. All 24 crew members were safely evacuated.

Since February 2026, after the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran, commercial ships in the Gulf region and along the Strait of Hormuz have continuously suffered attacks by missiles, drones, and explosive boats, with the affected waters covering the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia's offshore areas. Multiple vessels have caught fire or suffered structural damage in the attacks, but most incidents have not resulted in casualties.
