Anthropic CEO: I have only one direct report; I leave the rest to my sister.

Anthropic co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei recently revealed an extremely rare management structure — he currently has only one direct report. This arrangement allows him to focus the vast majority of his energy on corporate strategy, research direction, and shaping company culture, rather than day-to-day operations.

According to Bloomberg, Amodei disclosed in an exclusive interview with host Emily Chang that only his chief of staff reports to him directly. The rest of Anthropic's executive team all report to his sister, co-founder and president Daniela Amodei, who is responsible for the company's daily operations and management.

This structure is an extreme outlier among tech industry executives. Amodei stated that this arrangement is "incredibly freeing," allowing him to focus on shaping strategy, fostering corporate culture, steering research directions, and writing macro discussions about the future of civilization.

Currently, Anthropic has been established for just over five years, with a private market valuation approaching one hundred billion dollars. According to TechCrunch, compared to other tech giants' CEOs, Amodei’s management structure is particularly unusual — OpenAI's Sam Altman reportedly has around six direct reports, while Nvidia’s Jensen Huang has dozens.

This arrangement means that Dario has delegated almost all company operations and management to Daniela. This brother-sister partnership divides the CEO’s functions structurally in two: external strategy and research vision are handled by Dario, while internal operations and team management fall to Daniela.
