With the backing of giants like Apple and impressive export data, Vietnam is becoming the new favorite in global manufacturing.

On Wednesday, citing informed sources, the media reported that Apple plans to launch its first smart home device next year and release a desktop robot in 2027, both of which will be produced in Vietnam.

For multinational companies seeking supply chain diversification, Vietnam's appeal continues to rise. Trinh Nguyen, a senior economist at Natixis, noted that Vietnam moves quickly, enhancing productivity and competitiveness by lowering tariffs and advancing economic reforms. This makes Vietnam an ideal foreign direct investment destination for companies hoping to diversify in an environment of increasing geopolitical tensions.

Multiple Manufacturing Giants Betting on Vietnam

Apple is planning to expand its production scale in Vietnam. In 2026, Apple will launch several new home devices, including indoor security cameras and a display that can control home appliances and serve as a household hub. The company also plans to launch a desktop robot with mobility capabilities in 2027. These products will be assembled, tested, and packaged by BYD, and all three will be produced in Vietnam.

In May of this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated that Vietnam will eventually produce "almost all" iPads, MacBooks, watches, and AirPods for the US market. With its technically skilled young workforce, Vietnam has already attracted manufacturing giants such as Samsung Electronics and Nike.

Michael Piro, co-CEO of Indochina Capital Corp., pointed out that Vietnam's role in the global supply chain is continuously evolving. He added that, in recent years, key supply chain players such as Foxconn and GoerTek Inc., which designs sophisticated components for consumer electronics, have expanded their capacity in Vietnam, consolidating its status as a crucial node in the global tech and electronics ecosystem.

In the quarter ending in September, Vietnam's economy grew by 8.23% year-on-year, marking the fastest pace in the past three years. In terms of trade, according to Vietnamese customs data, in September this year, shipments of laptops and electronic products soared by about 131%, while total exports for the month grew by 38.5% year-on-year, reaching $13.7 billion.
