In September, the total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to 4,197.1 billion yuan, an increase of 3.0% year-on-year. Of this, retail sales of consumer goods excluding automobiles were 3,726.0 billion yuan, up 3.2%. From January to September, the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 36,587.7 billion yuan, an increase of 4.5%. Of this, retail sales of consumer goods excluding automobiles totaled 32,995.4 billion yuan, up 4.9%.

By location of the business units, in September, urban retail sales of consumer goods were 3,578.3 billion yuan, an increase of 2.9% year-on-year; rural retail sales of consumer goods were 618.8 billion yuan, up 4.0%. From January to September, urban retail sales of consumer goods reached 31,683.8 billion yuan, up 4.4%; rural retail sales of consumer goods were 4,903.9 billion yuan, up 4.6%.

By type of consumption, in September, retail sales of goods were 3,746.2 billion yuan, an increase of 3.3% year-on-year; catering revenue was 450.9 billion yuan, up 0.9%. From January to September, retail sales of goods amounted to 32,488.8 billion yuan, up 4.6%; catering revenue was 4,098.9 billion yuan, up 3.3%.

By retail business format, from January to September, among retail enterprises above designated size, the year-on-year growth rates of retail sales for convenience stores, supermarkets, department stores, specialty stores, and brand stores were 6.4%, 4.4%, 0.9%, 4.8%, and 1.5% respectively.

From January to September, national online retail sales reached 11,283.0 billion yuan, an increase of 9.8% year-on-year. Among them, online retail sales of physical goods amounted to 9,152.8 billion yuan, up 6.5%, accounting for 25.0% of the total retail sales of consumer goods; within online retail sales of physical goods, sales of food, clothing, and general merchandise increased by 15.1%, 2.8%, and 5.7% respectively.
