The competition in the large SUV market has entered a white-hot phase, and the Denza N9 has refreshed itself again after 6 months, joining the fray.
On September 17, the 2026 Denza N9 was officially launched. The new vehicle offers three models, with the price range remaining unchanged (389,800-449,800 RMB), but the standard features across all models have been greatly expanded, with the renowned actress Gao Yuanyuan appearing in person to endorse it.
As the flagship SUV under the Denza brand, the Denza N9 has experienced a journey from peak performance to decline since its launch in March 2025. Looking back at the sales trajectory, sales climbed to nearly 5,000 units in April, May, and June, but fell back to around 2,000 units in July and August.
Its recent market performance has lagged behind its main competitors, due to the increased number of rivals in the large SUV segment this year.
NIO founder, chairman, and CEO Li Bin once pointed out the reasons why everyone in the industry is ramping up efforts in large vehicles. He said, "Anyway, the incentives for big cars in China are the same, not much extra investment is needed, but the gross margin will be much higher. In this cycle, we will definitely prioritize big cars—big cars make more money."
In the 400,000 RMB new energy SUV market that Denza N9 aims to conquer, competition is even fiercer. In this market, Li Auto has long won over family users with models like the L9; AITO previously targeted the 400,000-600,000 RMB segment with the M9, and the new AITO M8 continuing to target the 400,000 RMB market has also gained considerable popularity after launch.
In addition to similar-priced competitors, this year, players like Ledo and Geely have pushed large-size SUVs down to below 300,000 RMB or even less, achieving good sales, making it even harder for Denza to win in the market.
However, facing competition and industry challenges, the newly appointed GM of Denza Auto, Li Hui, is very confident in their products.
He said, “People often compare the Denza N9 with competitors' models. We pay respect to the excellent, but strive to surpass them. Through a comprehensive comparison, competitors’ models priced over a million yuan lead in 11 metrics, but Denza N9 surpasses them in 108 metrics, especially excelling in the four core areas of power, safety, agility, and intelligence.”
This time, the 2026 Denza N9 has adopted a “more for the same price” strategy—the price remains unchanged, but the specifications are greatly improved.
The 2026 Denza N9 adds four new dual-color body schemes—Zi Rong Gold, Hong Ya Gold, Blue Chen Silver, Green Hua Silver—and one single-color scheme—Shuang Yun Tea. The interior adds a “Jinshan Brown” color to highlight its luxurious appearance. All models come standard with EasyTrip, Yun Nian-A, Odin’s Eye B, a dedicated 2.0T efficient engine for plug-in hybrids, and other tech-luxury features, equipped with intelligent anti-motion sickness system, parking-to-parking navigation assistance, and more.
Specifically, in terms of technological performance, the core competitiveness of the 2026 Denza N9 is reflected in its standard EasyTrip technology platform across all models. At the launch, Li Hui confidently declared, “Not all three-motor systems are called EasyTrip.”
It is understood that this technology allows the vehicle to effectively control stability even after a high-speed tire burst, and even avoids slipping and loss of control on icy or snowy roads.
At the same time, the new car has comprehensively improved key safety metrics, such as increasing the elk test speed from 180 km/h to 210 km/h, and the high-speed blowout test from 140 km/h to 180 km/h (straight line).
In terms of range, the Denza N9 uses a dedicated 2.0T efficient engine for plug-in hybrids, combined with the EHS electric hybrid system, with a measured 0-100km acceleration of 3.9s. After the fourth quarter OTA upgrade for extended-range mode, the CLTC pure electric range is 230km, with a comprehensive range of 1,330km.
Chinese consumers love big cars, but they are often difficult to drive—this has long been a pain point. In recent years, while the industry pushes for larger cars, there have also been increasing demands for tighter turning radii. As a flagship SUV with a body length of 5,258mm, the minimum turning radius is 4.65 meters.
Since it’s positioned as luxury, ride comfort must be considered. The Denza N9 is equipped with the Yun Nian-A intelligent body control system, combined with the Road Preview 2.0 system, which can detect speed bumps and potholes in advance, dynamically adjusting the suspension and body posture to reduce vibration and jolts.
This refresh also features significant upgrades in intelligent technology. For smart driving, the Denza N9 comes standard with Odin’s Eye B – Assisted Driving Lidar Edition (DiPilot 300), the debut of parking-to-parking navigation, as well as standard equipped exit and park, EasyTrip parking, and other smart parking features.
To attract more families, the Denza N9’s smart cockpit ecosystem partners with several companies. It has teamed up with children’s products brand Goodbaby, portable massager brand Breo, as well as DJI, Insta360, and others, covering infant seats, massage chairs, eye masks, drones, action cameras, and more, offering additional extensions.
Further, in the 2026 Denza N9, new features such as intelligent anti-motion sickness system, privacy sound shield, and one-touch erase have been added. However, these new features will be gradually pushed via OTA updates later. Notably, 2025 Denza N9 users can also upgrade to these features via OTA.
This major refresh and re-entry to the battleground shows the strategic importance of Denza N9 for the Denza brand.
The Denza brand has been established for 15 years, with its turning point beginning with the Denza D9 at the end of 2022. In the years since, the Denza D9 has been supporting sales for the brand, while other models have yet to show particularly impressive performance.
Now the market is obviously more competitive, with many new brands’ monthly sales surpassing 30,000 units. If Denza wants to consolidate its luxury positioning, it needs more models to gain market recognition.
In today’s fiercely competitive large vehicle market, if its flagship SUV can gain a reputation, it will naturally help Denza cement its position. The next task falls to the 2026 Denza N9.
