First senior official resigns! Director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center resigns: Cannot in good conscience support war against Iran

On March 17, Joseph Kent, Director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center, resigned due to the U.S. and Israel launching war against Iran. In a letter to U.S. President Trump posted on social media, he stated: "Iran does not pose an imminent threat to our country."

In this letter to Trump, Kent said: "After careful consideration, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective immediately.

I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war with Iran. Iran does not pose an imminent threat to our country. Clearly, the outbreak of this war is the result of pressure from Israel and its powerful lobbying groups in the United States.

I support the values and foreign policy you upheld during your campaigns in 2016, 2020, and 2024—principles that were also implemented during your first term. Until June 2025, you clearly recognized that wars in the Middle East are a trap that take the lives of our patriots and exhaust the nation’s wealth and prosperity.

In your first administration, you understood better than any modern president how to use military force decisively while avoiding endless wars.

Early in this administration, high-level Israeli officials and influential figures in American media launched a disinformation campaign, completely undermining your “America First” policy agenda, and incited public opinion in favor of war against Iran. This echo chamber was used to mislead you into believing Iran posed a direct threat to the United States and convinced you that by launching strikes immediately, you could achieve a swift victory. This is a lie—the same method used by Israel in the past to drag us into the disastrous Iraq war, which cost us thousands of our best sons and daughters. We cannot make the same mistake again.

As a veteran who fought in 11 combat deployments, and a widower who lost his beloved wife in a war manufactured by Israel, I cannot support sending the next generation to fight a war that brings no benefit to the American people and cannot be justified at the cost of American lives.

I hope you can reflect on everything we have done in Iran, and ask whom we are really fighting for. The time has come for decisive action. You can change course and pave a new path for the nation; or you can let us slide further into decline and chaos. The cards are in your hands."
