For the first time in history! White House: Unlikely to release CPI data next month
```
The White House said on Friday that due to the government shutdown, the U.S. government may not be able to release inflation data for October.
On October 24, the White House posted on X that a lack of funding had prevented investigators from going to the field, “making it impossible for us to obtain critical data.” The White House emphasized that this would be “the first time in history” such data could not be released.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote in another post on X:
“The Democrats’ decision to shut down the government will likely prevent the October inflation report from being released, throwing businesses, markets, families, and the Federal Reserve into chaos.”
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Currently, the U.S. government shutdown has entered its fourth week. Senate Democrats have repeatedly blocked temporary spending bills, saying they cannot support such measures unless Medicare subsidies are extended.
The funding shortfall has prompted the Trump administration to furlough large numbers of federal employees without pay, including staff from key government agencies.
