Honor’s mid-range phones break through the red ocean.

Flagship smartphone technologies are being integrated into mid-range models, becoming a trend in smartphone competition.

On November 27, the Honor 500 series phones began their first sales.

Following the launch of the 400 series in May this year, the 500 series is Honor's new generation of smartphones aimed at young users, positioned as mid-range models.

One of the core selling points of this product is that the standard version of the 500 series is equipped with the Snapdragon 8s Gen4 chip, while the Pro version uses the Snapdragon 8 Ultimate chip, delivering stronger computing power.

Prior to this, the Snapdragon 8 Ultimate chip was mainly used in Honor's high-end Magic7 series.

According to Honor product manager Zhao Muchen, the 500 series is also equipped with the Phantom Engine, enabling almost full-frame gaming for an hour.

In terms of pricing, the Honor 500 series comes in Super Standard and Super Pro versions, starting at 2,699 yuan and 3,599 yuan respectively.

These prices are quite affordable among domestic smartphones in the same segment. For example, OPPO's newly released Reno15 in November starts at 2,999 yuan, with the current promotional price down to 2,654 yuan.

The dual push of "performance + price" is a response to the current difficulty of growth facing the mid-range segment.

Third-party organization Omdia analyzed that the global smartphone market continues to show polarized growth, with both low-end (under $100) and high-end (over $700) markets expanding, while the mid-range market remains sluggish.

Therefore, by bringing flagship phone technology to mid-range models, Honor hopes to further capture the budget market.

However, Honor's ambitions for the mid-range market may not stop there.

This Honor 500 series targets Apple Air, featuring a 200-megapixel all-round portrait mode, a slim 7.75mm body, and support for reverse charging with iPhones, aiming to capture the backup phone market for Apple users.

The Honor 400 series achieved sales of 6 million units in just about half a year on the market. Whether the 500 series can set a new record is attracting attention.
