Hynix CEO: Storage shortage will continue until the end of 2030, and there is no need to worry about demand after that.

SK Hynix CEO Guo Luzheng made a long-term optimistic assessment of the global memory chip market, providing strong support for the continued prosperity of the semiconductor industry.

On August 27th local time, Guo Lu held a press conference after the groundbreaking ceremony for an advanced AI storage packaging production base at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA. He clearly stated that the shortage of memory chips will continue until the end of 2030. He also pointed out that even if a downturn occurs at that time, demand will not shrink drastically, and "there is no need to worry after 2030."

Guo Luzheng emphasized that there are currently no obvious signs of a market downturn, and the demand structure driven by AI is shifting from standardized products to customized products. This will fundamentally change the cyclical pattern of supply and demand imbalance in the past, so that even if a downturn occurs in the future, the impact of oversupply will be far less than historical levels.

The shortage cycle may continue until the end of 2030.

When asked how long the storage supply shortage would last, Guo Luzheng said, "No one knows exactly how long the shortage will last, but there are no clear signs of a downturn at present. We expect the shortage to continue until the end of 2030."

This is the clearest time prediction made by SK Hynix executives to date regarding the current upward cycle in the memory storage market. Guo Luzheng also stated, "The next downturn will be different from what we have experienced in the past few decades," suggesting that the structural support for this cycle is more robust than in the past.

AI customization demands are reshaping the supply and demand structure.

Guo Luzheng attributes the core logic of the above judgment to the structural changes in AI demand. He points out that AI business models are driving the transformation of storage products from 100% standardized products to partially customized or even fully customized products.

This means that supply will be more closely linked to specific demand, thereby structurally reducing the space for oversupply. Guo Luzheng stated, "Even if a downturn occurs, demand will not decrease sharply; it is more likely to slow down or remain at planned levels," and based on this, he expressed no concern about the market outlook after 2030.

When asked if there were plans to further expand semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the United States, Guo Luzheng stated, "We are open to any location, as long as it can provide sufficient resources such as electricity, funding, and subsidies."
