Indian AI infrastructure company AM Intelligence announced an order for 9,000 NVIDIA Vera Rubin systems, becoming one of the first purchasers of this top computing platform in Asia, betting on the country's low-cost renewable energy advantage to enter the global AI computing power competition.

According to a statement released Tuesday by the Hyderabad-based company, the server rack system will be operational in southern India next year, serving major cloud service providers, AI labs, and institutions dedicated to developing indigenous Indian AI models. This order is part of its $8 billion project plan, which aims to build 1 gigawatt of computing capacity.

Mahesh Kolli, founder and president of Greenko Group, stated that the initial computing capacity has been purchased by a US client, who is currently "urgently seeking" available computing power. He also pointed out that India, with its submarine cable infrastructure, can provide US companies with AI computing services with a latency of approximately 300 milliseconds, facing fewer operational constraints.

High-end computing power remains in short supply

The supply of high-end NVIDIA computing clusters remains tight. Strong demand from tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon for training AI models has created a backlog of demand over the years. Japan also plans to purchase NVIDIA's next-generation Rubin chips to build its own foundational AI models for robotics, with the first related data center expected to begin operations in June 2028.

AM Intelligence, part of the same group as renewable energy company Greenko Group Plc, received this order as a binding formal contract. Its Hyderabad facility is positioned to operate trillion-parameter AI models and next-generation intelligent agent AI applications.

According to Kolli, the group's core competitiveness lies in its ability to acquire low-cost renewable energy. "Energy prices are crucial in the global token economy," he stated. "We are one of the lowest-cost players in the global AI computing infrastructure market."

AM Group Chairman Anil Chalamalasetty defines this strategy as an "electronic-to-token opportunity," which involves massively converting power infrastructure into cutting-edge AI computing power. The group plans to offer competitive computing power pricing to customers in India, the United States, Finland, and Malaysia.

Expansion Path: 5 gigawatts by 2030

On the financing front, the group plans to support its expansion through a combination of debt and equity. "This business has a very short cycle from capital expenditure to cash flow," Kolli said. "We can rely partly on our own balance sheet, while also having experience in the bond market."

The company's goal is to build a total of 5 gigawatts of data center capacity in India, Europe and other regions by 2030.
