iPhone 17 is a big hit! Apple's sales in China surged 37% in October, reaching the highest market share since 2022.

The strong sales of the new generation iPhone are helping Apple regain robust growth momentum in China, a key market.

According to the latest data from market research firm Counterpoint Research, driven by the iPhone 17 series, Apple's smartphone sales in China surged 37% year-on-year in October. This strong performance brought its market share for the month to 25%, meaning that one out of every four smartphones sold in China was an iPhone.

This is the first time Apple has reached this market share level since 2022. The data indicates that Apple’s annual product upgrade strategy has successfully resonated with consumers and provides solid support for CEO Tim Cook’s expectation that China revenue could return to growth this quarter.

Counterpoint’s data shows that the success of Apple’s new generation products is the core driver of the sales surge. From the iPhone 17 with a price tag of 5,999 yuan to the iPhone 17 Pro Max at 8,999 yuan, all new models achieved double-digit growth compared to the previous iPhone 16 series.

Counterpoint analyst Ivan Lam pointed out that the new generation iPhone models accounted for over 80% of Apple’s total phone shipments in October. He stated that as higher average selling prices (ASP) drive revenue growth, the increase in Apple’s sales could be amplified further.

Huawei remains the main competitor

Currently, market competition remains intense, and Apple still faces challenges from domestic brands, especially from Huawei, which is about to launch new flagship models.

Counterpoint analyst Ivan Lam made it clear, "Risks still exist, especially since the highly anticipated Huawei Mate 80 series will be released on November 25."

However, Lam also added that the current momentum for the Apple iPhone is very strong, with almost no obvious signs of slowing down, suggesting that a sharp decline in the short term is unlikely.

Additionally, the data shows that Oppo’s smartphone sales in October rose 19% year-on-year, mainly driven by its Find X9 model with a larger battery capacity. Overall, China’s smartphone market saw an approximate 8% year-on-year sales growth in October.
