Moonshot AI, one of China's six prominent AI startups, is undergoing a new round of financing.

On January 19, according to sources cited by CNBC, Chinese artificial intelligence startup Moonshot AI reached a valuation of $4.8 billion in a new round of funding, an increase of $500 million from its valuation just a month ago.

The direct catalyst for the jump in valuation comes from the public market performance of its peers. Earlier this year, shares of Chinese AI companies Zhipu AI and MiniMax surged after their listings in Hong Kong.

(MiniMax rose nearly 10%, while Zhipu soared 70%)

Analysts believe that as the listing path for local Chinese AI companies is validated, international and domestic venture capitalists are racing to secure stakes in the next batch of IPOs, driving up the valuation levels of leading targets.

Primary Market Responds Quickly

The rapid adjustment in Moonshot AI's valuation stems from investor enthusiasm for Chinese AI companies on the verge of going public.

The report, citing insiders, stated that upon seeing the impressive stock market performance of comparable companies in Hong Kong, investors swiftly re-evaluated the value of Kimi. Due to strong subscription demand, this round of financing is expected to close quickly.

They added that given the rising market interest in potential Chinese AI IPOs, the company’s valuation may climb even further in subsequent rounds.

Although competitors have already made moves toward the capital markets, founder Yang Zhilin has shown remarkable strategic resolve. At recent AI industry summits and internal meetings, he clearly stated: Moonshot AI is currently in no rush to proceed with an IPO.

Yang Zhilin previously revealed that the company currently holds over 10 billion RMB in cash reserves, giving Moonshot AI the capital to maintain its own pace in the long run.

He believes the large-model race is far from entering the second half; the current focus should be on the development of next-generation inference models (K3 series) and the expansion of underlying computing power clusters, with the goal of achieving a leap in intelligence upper limits.

According to earlier reports, the December financing round for Moonshot AI attracted well-known institutions such as IDG Capital, Alibaba Group, and Tencent Holdings.
