LG Electronics' AI liquid cooling equipment receives NVIDIA certification, granting it access to AI data center projects.

LG Electronics' 2.5 MW coolant distribution unit (CDU) has received NVIDIA DSX Ready certification, gaining technical access to NVIDIA's AI factory-related projects and paving the way for future AI data center liquid cooling orders.

On September 22, according to the Seoul Economic Daily, LG Electronics announced that NVIDIA has included its 2.5 MW CDU in the DSX Ready certification product list. DSX Ready is NVIDIA's certification system for AI factory-related infrastructure products, targeting NVIDIA's large-scale AI data centers that integrate GPUs with cooling, power, networking, and operational technologies.

Currently, only three CDU products globally have achieved 2.5 MW DSX Ready certification, and LG Electronics' product is among them. However, obtaining certification does not guarantee an order from Nvidia; the final procurement still depends on the actual project needs of Nvidia and its data center customers, as well as the supplier's selection. Following the announcement, LG Electronics' Korean stock rose nearly 7%.

The 2.5MW capacity covers core rack requirements, and certification is expected to enhance the project's competitiveness.

One important significance of this certification is that the 2.5 MW CDU capacity is well-matched with the rack-level power consumption requirements of NVIDIA's AI factory.

According to reports, a single server rack in an AI factory consumes approximately 120 kilowatts, with 20 racks totaling about 2.4 megawatts, approaching the capacity of a single 2.5-megawatt CDU. Therefore, certified products are expected to have more direct technical compatibility in AI data center projects targeting this power level.

LG Electronics doesn't only offer the 2.5 MW product. Previously, its 600 kW and 1 MW CDU products had also obtained certifications for other data centers, covering the cooling needs of data centers of different sizes, gradually forming a product matrix ranging from small and medium power to large AI data centers.

With CDU as its core, LG Electronics is ramping up its investment in the entire liquid cooling chain.

The CDU is the core equipment of LG Electronics' AI data center liquid cooling solution. It is mainly responsible for coolant circulation and heat exchange, removing the heat generated by high-power chips such as GPUs.

Around CDU, LG Electronics is also advancing products and technologies such as chillers, computer room air handling units (CRAH), and cold plates that directly contact chips for heat dissipation, attempting to extend from single devices to complete liquid cooling solutions.

Market research firm TrendForce predicts that the adoption rate of liquid cooling solutions for AI data centers will increase from 14% in 2024 to 60% in 2025. As the power consumption of AI servers continues to increase, the application of liquid cooling in data centers is also expanding, providing a market foundation for LG Electronics to expand its related business.

Lee Jae-sung, head of LG Electronics' ES business unit, said that the company will use this NVIDIA DSX certification as a starting point to provide more reliable and efficient cooling solutions to major technology companies around the world, and plans to establish a leading position in the next-generation liquid cooling market.

For LG Electronics, the core value of this certification is not the orders themselves, but rather the qualification to enter NVIDIA's AI factory-related project supplier system. As NVIDIA's AI infrastructure construction continues to expand, the ability to further translate this certification into actual projects and bulk orders will be key to the future growth of its liquid cooling business.
