Pony Ma acknowledged the company's winding journey in the field of artificial intelligence, and used a humorous analogy to describe the current situation: already on the boat, but not yet steady.

On May 13, at the Tencent shareholders’ meeting, Chairman and CEO Pony Ma gave his most candid response so far to doubts from outsiders about whether Tencent AI is lagging behind. He said, “Originally, a year ago we thought we were on the boat, but later found out the boat was leaking. Now it feels like we've got on board, but can't sit down, and still hope the boat can go faster.”

Pony Ma also emphasized that Tencent may not be the fastest in seizing opportunities in the industry, but insists on walking the right path, combining its own unique advantages and taking steady steps. “We can't just jump in because others are doing it over there and grab someone else's territory. We have competed before but basically failed in the end.”
