Meituan launches CatPaw, an all-scenario AI Agent platform, already covering 90,000 employees internally.

On July 27, Meituan announced the official launch of its all-scenario AI Agent platform, CatPaw. The platform provides an out-of-the-box AI workspace, as well as enterprise-level Agent development and hosting capabilities, targeting local lifestyle merchants.

CatPaw is not an entirely new product. According to public information, it was launched internally within Meituan as an editor plugin as early as 2023, and after nearly three years of iteration, it has now been upgraded and opened for public testing. Currently, the penetration rate of internal R&D at Meituan exceeds 95%, and the incremental code AI generation rate is over 50%.

Meituan revealed data showing that CatPaw has been deployed internally to 90,000 employees, constructing more than 30,000 Agents. These Agents have been validated in various real business scenarios such as catering, beauty, pet hospitals, and more.

Functionally, CatPaw is positioned as an assistant tool for merchants’ daily operations. After authorization and rule configuration, the AI assistants built by merchants can automatically aggregate scattered information on sales, group-buy verification, reviews, inventory, etc., identify anomalies and items requiring follow-up in business operations, and generate reports. The platform comes with features such as store review analysis, product copywriting, marketing posters, and business reports, relying on Meituan's accumulated data in the local lifestyle sector.

On the interaction level, CatPaw supports collaboration between mobile, PC, and cloud端.

The mobile end allows tasks to be initiated and progress checked at any time; the PC end offers abilities such as file operations, browser control, and terminal commands; the cloud supports 24/7 operation. When faced with complex tasks, the system can dynamically break down tasks, dispatching multiple Agents to process concurrently.

Notably, CatPaw clearly does not make final business decisions. Key actions such as price adjustments and event releases are still to be confirmed by operators, with AI responsible for information organization, presenting problems, and making strategy suggestions.

For enterprises with customization needs, CatPaw provides Agent development, deployment, and operation management capabilities. Enterprises can configure prompt words, knowledge base, credentials, tools, and permissions themselves, integrating AI assistants into platforms such as Feishu and WeCom. The platform also supports environment isolation, credential management, conversation records, and private deployment.

The launch of CatPaw marks the implementation of Meituan's AI strategy for the B-end. In the first quarter of this year, Meituan's R&D investment increased 22% year-on-year to RMB 7 billion, accounting for 7.7% of total revenue.

CEO Wang Xing stated in the financial report call that Meituan sees AI as a strategic opportunity to strengthen its moat and create new value, and will continue to iterate its AI Agent and large model capabilities.

In early July this year, Meituan just open-sourced the trillion-parameter large model LongCat-2.0, which is the industry's first trillion-parameter model to have its entire training and inference workflow completed entirely with domestic computing power.

Looking at CatPaw’s evolution path, it went from an internal editor plugin to an all-scenario AI Agent platform, from R&D scenarios to merchant operation scenarios—Meituan is attempting to extend AI capabilities from its expertise in technical aspects to the business frontline.

However, a practical issue is that the number of local lifestyle merchants is massive and their levels of digitalization vary greatly, so whether CatPaw can really lower the threshold for use and be continuously used in real business scenarios still requires time to verify.

Currently, the product is fully open for trial use.
