Musk's AI company xAI is accelerating the expansion of its AI computing power.

On September 25 local time, Musk said on the social media platform X that his AI computing cluster Colossus 2 has now deployed 110,000 NVIDIA GB200 and 440,000 GB300, totaling 550,000 chips . The number of chips may more than double the current level by the end of the year.

Musk revealed that Colossus 2 will also see a major expansion: 220,000 GB300s are expected to be officially put into operation next week, and another 220,000 will be online in November; if all goes well, another 220,000 GB300s may be online before the end of December.

According to this expansion plan, Colossus 2 may add up to 660,000 GB300 chips by the end of the year, bringing the total number of chips to about 1.21 million , an increase of about 120% from the current 550,000.

This also means that Colossus 2 will see a large-scale expansion of computing power in the coming months, with almost all of the new chips coming from NVIDIA GB300.

Musk also disclosed that Colossus 1 currently has 150,000 H100 GPUs, 50,000 H200 GPUs, and 30,000 GB200 GPUs . Previously, xAI stated that it planned to equip its data center in Memphis, USA, with 1 million GPUs by 2026.

Musk's further announcement of the Colossus 2 expansion timeline demonstrates that xAI is still rapidly expanding its AI infrastructure. With the continued rollout of the GB300 chip, xAI's data center computing power will be further enhanced by the end of this year to support its AI model training and inference needs.
