"New Killer" in the Software Industry? Anthropic may launch "AI design tool" as soon as this week, causing Figma and Adobe to plunge

A report about Anthropic entering the AI design sector caused the entire creative software sector to come under pressure collectively on Tuesday.

According to The Information on April 14, AI company Anthropic is preparing to launch an AI-powered web and presentation design tool, which may be released as early as this week. The market reacted quickly and directly when the news broke — Figma's stock dropped 6%, Wix fell 4.7%, Adobe dropped 2.7%, GoDaddy declined 3%.

The commonality among these four companies is precisely the area Anthropic is about to target: website building, visual design, and content creation.

What does Anthropic want to do?

According to reports, Anthropic's design tool will allow users to create presentations, websites, landing pages, and product prototypes using natural language commands, covering both technical and non-technical user groups.

An insider stated that this tool will pose a direct threat to presentation tool Gamma as well as Google's AI design tool Google Stitch.

The logic is not hard to understand: in the past, making a website or designing a set of slides required professional software and a certain learning curve. But if users can "just say a sentence" to accomplish this, the core value of tools like Figma and Wix faces the risk of being bypassed.

A New Model Arrives Synchronously

The report also points out that Anthropic plans to launch its new flagship model Claude Opus 4.7 alongside the design tool.

However, Opus 4.7 is not Anthropic’s currently strongest model — that title belongs to Claude Mythos.

This means that the design tool that Anthropic is launching may not even be using its most advanced technology reserve.

Market Concerns: AI Reshaping the Creative Software Landscape

Figma and Adobe's pressure did not start today.

According to BTIG analysts (as cited by GuruFocus), Adobe is still the absolute leader in the creative software sector, with annual revenue of about $24 billion and industry-leading profit margins. BTIG believes Adobe's layout in the AI direction is commendable and its valuation is relatively reasonable, but analysts said they are "not yet ready to fully bet," with the core concern being the fundamental reshaping of content creation methods by AI.

Figma is in a similar situation, only at an earlier stage. BTIG points out that usage of Figma’s AI tools is growing rapidly, but whether user payment conversion can be sustained remains a key variable to watch.

Anthropic’s entry undoubtedly adds to the uncertainty. For investors, the question is no longer "Will AI impact these companies?" but "How quickly will the impact arrive?"
