Next Tuesday! The U.S. Supreme Court has set the next tariff opinion day; if no decision is announced, there will be at least another month’s wait.

The U.S. Supreme Court has set Tuesday as the next date for announcing its decisions, and the world is waiting for a ruling on former President Trump’s signature tariff policy.

As is customary, the Supreme Court does not disclose in advance which cases are ready for judgment, only stating that when the Justices enter the courtroom at 10 a.m. Washington time, decisions may be released.

If the ruling on the tariff case is not announced next week, it is likely that the wait will be at least another month. The Justices typically enter the courtroom only when opinions on heard cases are to be issued, and Wednesday will be the last court session before the next term. After that, the Court will recess until February 20.

If the Supreme Court rules against Trump on the tariff issue, it will undermine a core pillar of his economic agenda and become the biggest legal setback since his return to the White House. The focus of the dispute is the "Liberation Day" tariff measures announced by Trump on April 2, which imposed tariffs of 10% to 50% on most imported goods.

During the hearing on November 5, the U.S. Supreme Court questioned whether Trump had the authority under a 1977 law to impose such tariffs. The law grants special powers to the president during emergencies. If the final decision is unfavorable to Trump, it could open the door for refunds on more than $130 billion in tariffs.
