The AI inference infrastructure market is facing a significant cost and supply shock.

At a recent event held by renowned US venture capital firm Altimeter, Baseten CEO Tuhin Srivastava revealed that their cloud service provider had notified them in advance this May that the hourly rental price of Nvidia B200 GPUs will rise from the current $2.63 to $5.10 when the contract renews in October, an increase of about 94%.

He emphasized that the key point of this figure is not the absolute price level, but what it reveals about the degree of supply-demand imbalance—the fact that cloud providers are offering prices months in advance itself shows that, against the backdrop of continued compute scarcity, buyers have virtually no room for negotiation.

Meanwhile, supply-side tensions have not eased. According to Tuhin Srivastava, the delivery schedule for bulk orders of 1,000 GPUs has generally been pushed back to the second quarter of next year, with a waiting period of 12 to 15 months. The combined effect of delivery bottlenecks and rising rental prices means that even if enterprises increase investment, it is difficult to fill the compute gap through procurement in the short term. Under the dual pressure of rising prices and supply bottlenecks, the cost of AI inference is facing substantial increases.

Baseten was founded in 2019, headquartered in San Francisco, and is positioned as a production-grade AI inference infrastructure service provider. Its business covers model deployment, management, scaling, and monitoring, offering elastic scaling support in multi-cluster and multi-cloud environments, supplemented with performance research and embedded AI engineering services. As of January 2026, the company has completed a Series D+ round and received strategic investment from Nvidia.
