Nvidia denies negotiating the acquisition of any PC manufacturer, after rumors of its pursuit of a major acquisition caused a sharp surge in the stock prices of Dell and HP.

According to Bloomberg, a Nvidia spokesperson said on Monday, "The media reports are false. Nvidia has not had any discussions regarding the acquisition of any PC manufacturer."

Previously, technology website SemiAccurate published a report claiming that Nvidia was seeking to acquire a major company, an action that would "reshape the landscape of the PC industry," and stated that negotiations had lasted for over a year.

Affected by the rumor, Dell and HP shares surged on Monday, with Dell jumping 6.7% to close at a record high of $189.79, and HP rising 5.3% to end at $19.23. After Nvidia stated the news was false, both companies' stocks fell after hours, each dropping over 3%.

Origins of the Rumor: SemiAccurate Report Triggers Market Fluctuation

The rumor originated from a report by tech news site SemiAccurate, which stated that Nvidia was in negotiations to acquire a large company and that the talks had lasted for more than a year. Should the deal go through, it would deeply impact the PC industry.

The report did not specify the acquisition target, but the market immediately focused on Dell and HP. Nvidia quickly denied the rumors. (In Q1, global PC market share rankings: Lenovo leads with 27%, HP second with 19%, Dell third with 17%).

Although the acquisition rumor was denied, Nvidia has genuine business ties with the PC industry. On the hardware side, Dell is a key downstream customer of Nvidia chips, with its AI server business making extensive use of Nvidia products.

Dell forecasts that for its fiscal year ending January 2027, revenue from this business will reach about $50 billion. Nvidia, for its fiscal year ending January this year, invested $70 billion in partners and customers to promote AI adoption.
