On the eve of the US AI Summit, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won met again with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. The two sides had in-depth discussions on cooperation directions such as next-generation memory development and AI infrastructure investment, reaffirming a long-term partnership and further strengthening the deep binding of both companies in the AI supply chain.

On July 24 local time, both parties held a dinner in Woodside, California. SK Hynix CEO Kwak No-jung, SK Telecom, and several senior executives of NVIDIA were present. NVIDIA stated that this meeting was to commemorate the long-term cooperation between the two sides, and to further advance the AI cooperation topics reached during Jensen Huang’s visit to Korea in June this year.

For the market, this high-level interaction once again signals the stable position of SK Hynix as the core HBM supplier for NVIDIA’s AI chips, and further consolidates investor expectations that SK-affiliated companies will benefit in the long term from the AI industry chain.

Meanwhile, NVIDIA will further promote AI ecosystem cooperation with the Korean government, enterprises, and research institutions at the AI Summit in San Francisco. NVIDIA said that Korea’s President Lee Jae-myung, as well as major Korean entrepreneurs and researchers, will work with NVIDIA and ecosystem partners to discuss the development direction of Korea's AI industry.

The SK-NVIDIA cooperation framework continues to deepen

According to Korean media "Today Finance," this meeting is a continuation and concretization of the cooperation discussion between the two sides during Jensen Huang’s visit to Korea in June. Currently, the two companies are promoting cooperation around the NVIDIA AI platform in three major areas: AI infrastructure, Personal AI, and Physical AI.

SK Hynix will jointly develop next-generation memory products according to NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure development roadmap. As the scale of generative AI models continues to expand, high-performance HBM and other advanced memories have become an important bottleneck for AI servers. As NVIDIA’s core HBM supplier, SK Hynix is expected to continue benefiting from the expansion of AI computing power.

SK Telecom, in cooperation with NVIDIA, is advancing the construction of infrastructure for Physical AI and robotics technologies, and plans to build an AI factory in South Korea, aiming to officially begin operations next year.

In addition, NVIDIA and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) announced the founding of Korea’s first AI research center jointly established by a Korean university and a global technology company. The center will be located in the Kim Jae-chul Graduate School of AI at KAIST, focusing on the innovative development of Agentic AI technology in Korea.

According to NVIDIA, the collaboration combines NVIDIA’s full-stack AI technical capabilities, Nemotron open-source models, and computing resources provided by NVIDIA AI cloud partners, to jointly establish with KAIST’s top research teams a talent and technology system for future AI research.

Notably, Madison Huang (Jensen Huang’s eldest daughter), Senior Director of Omniverse and Robotics Product Marketing at NVIDIA, also attended the dinner, further highlighting the deep roots of this cooperation.

Korea’s tech leaders make a collective appearance in Silicon Valley, ramping up AI strategies

Chey Tae-won’s trip to the US is an important part of the collective visit by senior figures from Korea’s tech industry.

In addition to Chey Tae-won, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun, Naver founder Lee Hae-jin, and other Korean tech leaders will also hold consecutive meetings with executives of global tech companies in Silicon Valley, forming a rare collective industrial diplomatic presence among Korean businesses in recent years.
