There has been a price fluctuation in the Japanese consumer SSD retail market, with Samsung’s flagship products seeing increases as high as 300%. Multiple Kioxia products have also seen across-the-board increases, reflecting the structural pressure on the global storage supply chain tightening as AI infrastructure construction accelerates.

According to a report from Tom's Hardware, the highest retail price for the Samsung 9100 Pro 8TB SSD in Japan is about 548,000 yen (approximately $3,471), which is about 43% higher than the $1,961 listing price on U.S. Amazon. Some mainstream Samsung product lines have seen increases up to 384.7% compared to January.

Multiple Kioxia products are also under pressure, with price increases ranging from 39.8% to 59.4%. However, several SanDisk (Western Digital) models have actually seen price drops, making the pricing trends among brands increasingly notable.

As storage resources continue to concentrate toward AI infrastructure, Japanese consumer electronics manufacturers are facing a dual squeeze on costs and profits. Nintendo has already announced a price increase for the Switch 2, a typical example of upstream supply tightening leading to downstream consumer impact.
