Secures 450 billion KRW AI server MLCC mega order! Samsung Electro-Mechanics signs contract with global tech giant
```
Samsung Electro-Mechanics has announced the signing of a contract worth approximately 450 billion Korean won (about 1.967 billion RMB) for the supply of AI server multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) with a global technology giant. The contract covers the entirety of 2027, further consolidating its market position in the core components field of AI infrastructure.
The contract amount accounts for about 4.0% of the company's consolidated revenue in 2025. Such a large single contract is rare in the MLCC industry. Samsung Electro-Mechanics disclosed the contract on June 30; the contract period is from January 1, 2027 to December 31, 2027. It is noteworthy that the company holds over a 40% market share in the AI server MLCC segment, significantly higher than its approximately 25% global share in the overall MLCC market, reflecting its differentiated competitive advantages in high-technology barrier sectors.
As global investment in AI computing power continues to expand, demand for high-spec MLCCs is rapidly increasing. The number of MLCCs required in AI servers is more than ten times that of ordinary servers. The high technical threshold leads to highly concentrated supply among a few companies, enhancing the supply advantage and bargaining power of industry leaders.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics CEO Dukhyun Jang said, "This contract proves that Samsung Electro-Mechanics' MLCCs are recognized as core components in the AI era," adding that the company will "take the lead in developing next-generation advanced products to meet customer needs and lead the market."
AI servers drive a surge in MLCC demand, Samsung Electro-Mechanics holds over 40% market share
MLCC is a core passive component that stores electrical energy and supplies stable power to semiconductors, while also eliminating internal signal interference (noise) to improve overall performance and stability. In AI server environments, sudden fluctuations in internal power supply can directly impact performance, making MLCCs increasingly critical for stable power management.
In terms of loading volume, a single graphics processing unit (GPU) in an AI server typically uses more than 20,000 MLCCs, with each server rack holding up to 600,000 units—far more than ten times that of a normal server. Under limited loading space conditions, demand for ultra-small products has risen sharply.
Additionally, the high computing power operation of AI servers generates massive heat, requiring MLCCs to remain stable under harsh conditions such as high temperatures (over 105℃), high voltage (100V), and strong bending strength, posing extremely high requirements for product reliability. These technical specifications make the R&D and manufacturing difficulty of AI server MLCCs much higher than traditional applications such as consumer electronics.
Given these strict technical specifications, market entry barriers for AI server MLCCs are extremely high, and global supply is concentrated among a handful of companies. Samsung Electro-Mechanics holds approximately 25% of the global market share in the overall MLCC market, but in the highly demanding AI server segment, its share exceeds 40%, leading the industry.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics stated that it will seize the opportunity of this contract to actively promote in-depth discussions with global customers and major tech companies on continued supply after 2027. The company plans to steadily increase the supply proportion of high value-added products such as AI and automotive electronics, upgrading related product portfolios as a mid-term development priority.
