With gold prices remaining high, Shandong Gold's profitability has improved significantly.

On Friday, Shandong Gold disclosed its 2026 interim results, with net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company reaching 3.543 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 26.17%; total profit increased by 48.74% to 8.156 billion yuan.

At the same time , the company's operating revenue decreased by 5.60% year-on-year to 53.588 billion yuan . The pattern of "increased profits but not increased revenue" reflects the significant amplifying effect of rising gold prices on the profit margins of mining companies.

The company's net profit excluding non-recurring items was RMB 3.544 billion, almost on par with the net profit attributable to the parent company, indicating stable contributions from its core business. If the one-off drag from the approximately RMB 705 million loss due to changes in the fair value of the equity held by its subsidiary, Shandong Gold Holdings, is excluded, the net profit attributable to the parent company would reach RMB 4.072 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 45.01%. The company's board of directors approved a cash dividend of RMB 1.00 per 10 shares (inclusive of tax) , totaling approximately RMB 461 million. The A-share dividend was distributed on August 21, and the H-share dividend will follow on September 7.

Profitability improved across the board, with ROE and earnings per share improving in tandem.

All core profitability indicators point in the same direction. During the reporting period, the weighted average return on equity (ROE) reached 10.15%, an increase of 0.34 percentage points compared with the same period of the previous year; basic earnings per share were RMB 0.72, an increase of 26.32% year-on-year.

The contrast between a slight contraction in revenue and a significant surge in profits reveals a clear underlying logic: the sharp rise in gold prices directly boosted the profit margin of mined gold sales, while the revenue decline may be related to structural adjustments in low-margin businesses such as gold trading. This combination indicates that the company is efficiently translating the benefits of the gold bull market into shareholder returns, resulting in a continuous improvement in profitability.

Cash flow pressure and concentrated investment in resource integration projects are the main reasons.

Compared to the impressive profit performance, cash flow was slightly weaker. During the reporting period, net cash flow from operating activities was RMB 7.771 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 26.01%.

This change is closely related to the company's ongoing resource integration project in the Yantai region.

According to the company's disclosure, since 2026, the construction of projects such as Jiaojia Gold Mine, Xincheng Gold Mine, Sanshandao Gold Mine, and Penglai Mining has been significantly accelerated. At the same time, in response to the industry's upgraded safety regulations, the company has proactively reduced its production operations, which has had a certain drag on gold production and operating cash flow in the short term.

The company's management stated in the report that as the relevant projects are completed and put into operation and the integration and synergy effects gradually emerge, the aforementioned impacts will be gradually absorbed and ultimately transformed into more stable and sustainable value returns.

A sound balance sheet and significantly improved debt repayment ability

As of the end of the reporting period, the company's total assets reached RMB 177.554 billion, an increase of 4.21% from the beginning of the year; net assets attributable to shareholders of the listed company were RMB 47.137 billion, an increase of 4.98% from the beginning of the year, with asset size and net assets expanding in tandem.

The debt-to-equity ratio was 61.90%, a slight decrease from 62.21% at the end of last year, indicating that the overall leverage level remained stable and controllable. More notably, the EBITDA interest coverage ratio jumped significantly from 10.08 times in the same period of last year to 14.14 times, directly demonstrating that the company's profitability has a sufficient safety margin relative to its debt costs, further reducing the credit risk for bondholders.

The company currently has a total of RMB 8 billion in outstanding bonds, including perpetual corporate bonds and technology innovation corporate bonds, with coupon rates ranging from 2.12% to 3.22%. The overall financing cost is at a low level, which supports the continued expansion of capital expenditures.

Concentrated shareholding structure, stable state-owned capital dominance

As of the end of the reporting period, the company had a total of 220,400 shareholders. The largest shareholder, Shandong Gold Group Co., Ltd., held 34.17% of the shares. Together with its subsidiaries, including Shandong Gold Resources Development, Shandong Gold Nonferrous Mining Group, and Shandong Gold Group Qingdao Gold, the total state-owned holding ratio was approximately 42.90%.

Regarding overseas shareholdings, Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company Limited (the Nominee) holds 21.59%, and combined with Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company Limited's 1.69%, H-share investors collectively hold over 23%, reflecting the company's considerable attractiveness in the international capital market. The National Social Security Fund, the Basic Pension Insurance Fund, and several ETFs also appear on the list of top ten shareholders, with continued allocation by institutional investors providing fundamental support for the company's share price.

Upgraded safety regulations may cause short-term disruptions, but long-term capacity expansion is expected.

The most noteworthy risk warning in this interim report for investors is the company's proactive disclosure of the potential impact of improved safety management on production. Faced with the overall trend of upgraded safety regulations in the industry, the company has chosen to proactively reduce its production operations, which will create uncertainty in the short term regarding the achievement of its 2026 full-year gold production target. The specific extent of the impact is yet to be determined.

Proactive rectification is better than reactive measures; safe and standardized management is a fundamental prerequisite for the sustainable operation of mining enterprises. Meanwhile, the resource integration project that the company is currently undertaking on a large scale in the Yantai area, once completed and put into operation, will effectively supplement and exceed current limited production capacity, laying the foundation for the next stage of simultaneous increases in both volume and price. For long-term investors, this should be understood as a strategic choice to exchange short-term pain for long-term competitiveness.
