Tesla's monthly sales in the European market have once again seen a sharp decline.

According to data from the Swedish Association of Automobile Manufacturers, Tesla registered only 133 new cars in Sweden in October, a year-on-year plunge of 89%, making it the market with the largest drop to date. Sales in Norway, the Netherlands, and Italy fell by about half, while sales in Spain dropped by nearly one third.

France is the only exception. Tesla’s registrations in that market grew by 2.4% in October, but this increase was based on a very low base—October 2024 sales had dropped by 47% compared to the same period the previous year. In the first ten months of this year, the company’s registrations in France were still down 30%.

As of September, pure electric vehicle registrations in Germany rose by 38%. During the same period, Tesla's sales in Germany fell by 50%.

The sustained weakness of the European market stands in sharp contrast to Tesla’s operations in the US. The company set a sales record in the third quarter, mainly benefiting from American buyers rushing to take advantage of the $7,500 EV purchase tax credit before September 30.

Tesla has underperformed in the European market for several consecutive quarters. Aging product lines and negative reactions triggered by Musk’s political stance are major reasons.

Musk and other executives had previously blamed poor sales earlier this year on the update of the main Model Y, saying the transition to the new design temporarily disrupted production. However, months after the company began delivering the updated Model Y in Europe, Tesla’s performance in many markets remains sluggish.
