The General Office of the State Council recently issued the “Opinions on Unlocking the Potential of Sports Consumption and Further Promoting the High-Quality Development of the Sports Industry” (hereinafter referred to as the “Opinions”).
The “Opinions” adhere to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as the guiding principle, thoroughly implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Second and Third Plenary Sessions of the 20th Central Committee, fully and accurately apply the new development philosophy, accelerate the construction of a modern sports industry system, continuously boost sports consumption, and enhance the overall strength and competitiveness of the sports industry. It proposes that by 2030, a number of sports enterprises and sports events with global influence will be cultivated, the development level of the sports industry will rise significantly, the total scale will exceed 7 trillion yuan, and it will play an important role in the new development pattern.
The “Opinions” puts forward 20 key measures in 6 areas. First, expand the supply of sports products, enrich sports events and activities, optimize event service management, develop the outdoor sports industry, foster and expand the ice and snow economy, and promote the upgrading of sports goods. Second, stimulate demand for sports consumption, expand sports consumption scenarios, hold sports consumption activities, implement consumer benefit measures, and broaden the consumer base. Third, strengthen sports business entities, grow and strengthen sports enterprises, establish high-quality matching platforms, and deepen exchanges and cooperation in the sports industry.
