The US CPI rose 3.4% year-on-year in August, in line with expectations and the previous reading. The month-on-month increase was 0.4%, also in line with expectations, compared to 0.1% in the previous month.

The US core CPI rose 2.4% year-on-year in August, in line with expectations and down from 2.5% in August. The month-on-month increase was 0.3%, exceeding expectations of 0.2% and down from 0.2% in August.

Following the data release, the US dollar index rose briefly by about 20 points, currently trading at 99.15. Spot gold fell briefly by about $6, currently trading at $4332.01 per ounce. The yield on the 10-year US Treasury note rose briefly, currently at 4.949%.
