On January 7 local time, U.S. President Trump posted on his social media platform "Truth Social" that after negotiations with senators, representatives, cabinet members and other political representatives, he has decided that "for the good of the country," especially during this "turbulent and crisis-ridden" period, the U.S. military budget for 2027 should not be $1 trillion, but $1.5 trillion.

Trump stated that this would allow them to build a stronger military. He said that if it weren't for the "huge revenues" brought in from tariffs on other countries, he would have maintained the $1 trillion budget. But because of tariffs and the resulting income, they are now easily able to reach a $1.5 trillion budget.
