On April 12 local time, U.S. President Trump posted on social media that, effective immediately, the U.S. Navy will begin to blockade all ships attempting to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz, intercept and inspect all vessels in international waters that pay passage fees to Iran, and clear Iranian sea mines laid in the Strait.

Trump stated that Iran had promised to keep the Strait of Hormuz open but failed to do so. He said Iran "knows how to end the current situation."

At present, Iran has not responded to this matter.
