U.S. media: Trump postpones final decision on Iran-related agreement

On Friday, the 29th Eastern US time, during the midday trading session of US stocks, Xinhua cited US media reports that a senior government official, who wished to remain anonymous, said US President Trump held a meeting with his aides in the White House Situation Room for about two hours, but no “final decision” was made regarding the agreement with Iran.

According to the US media, the official indicated that the Trump administration believes that the US and Iran are close to reaching an agreement, but some issues are still being discussed, including the unfreezing of Iranian funds.

Xinhua mentioned that earlier on Friday, Trump posted on social media, reiterating America’s stance in negotiations with Iran and stating he was heading to the Situation Room for a meeting to “make a final decision” regarding the Iran conflict.

According to reports from Xinhua, CCTV, and other media, Trump set conditions for ending the Iran conflict in his social media post. He said Iran must agree never to possess nuclear weapons. The Strait of Hormuz must be immediately opened, allowing free passage in both directions with no tolls. All sea mines must be cleared.

Trump posted that the maritime blockade against Iran is “about to be lifted,” and ships trapped in the Strait of Hormuz can begin “returning home.” He also said the US and Iran have reached consensus on secondary matters beyond the Iranian nuclear issue and passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

However, Iran later refuted Trump’s claims.

According to Xinhua citing Iranian media, sources said the text of the agreement with the US is currently in the final stage of approval inside Iran, and no final decision has been made. According to the Iranian media, informed Iranian sources said Trump’s claim that an agreement might be reached with Iran is “half true, half false,” trying to portray a fabricated victory. “Almost everyone now knows these claims lack credibility.”

According to CCTV News, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baghaei said Friday night local time that communication between Iran and the US is still ongoing, but no final consensus has been reached. Any Western party discussing Iran cannot use language such as “must.” Iran will independently make decisions based solely on the interests and rights of the Iranian people.
