U.S. Senate Democratic leader: Military action against Iran is an epic failure; Trump's "war powers" should be limited.

The situation in the Middle East is at an impasse. The US and Iran are close to reaching a framework agreement to end the conflict, but differences remain. Iran says it is impossible to “fully accept” the US proposal. Previously, Senate Democrats publicly criticized the Trump administration’s military actions against Iran, calling it an “epic failure.” Despite the dawn, the deadlock persists, and the direction of the situation remains highly uncertain.

According to CCTV International News, on April 14, US Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer stated in Congress that the Trump administration’s “epic fury” military action against Iran was an “epic failure.” He said he would force a weekly vote to limit President Trump’s “war powers.”

According to Xinhua News Agency, Trump said in a US ABC interview on the 14th that the Iran war is "close to ending," and that Iran is "eager" to reach an agreement, suggesting that the US and Iran may return to the negotiating table in Pakistan within the next two days. When asked whether the conflict would end with an agreement or by “destroying Iran’s capabilities,” he stated: "Both are possible, but I think reaching an agreement is preferable."

Although Schumer’s legislative action may not directly change the course of military actions, continuous voting pressure will increase the Trump administration’s political cost in war decisions and may impact market sentiment.

Criticizing Congress for inaction, Schumer plans to forcibly advance war powers bill

According to Xinhua News Agency and CCTV International News, Schumer criticized Congress for ignoring the heavy blow this action delivered to the US and global economy, saying “there are no hearings, no oversight, and no accountability,” and nothing is being done. Schumer said, the Democrats will submit a bill to limit the President’s war powers within this week, until the war ends or Congress holds the administration accountable.

Schumer said: “If Republicans do not act, Senate Democrats will forcibly push this issue. Starting this week, we will introduce a war powers resolution for a vote. If Republicans block it, we will vote over and over again.”

Framework agreement is near yet undecided

Schumer’s remarks reflect Washington’s political struggle. Meanwhile, US-Iran negotiations remain at a stalemate, with little substantive progress. According to Xinhua News Agency, President Trump said in an interview aired by US media on the 15th that the “final outcome” of the war with Iran may be reached soon.

According to Xinhua News Agency Report on April 15, the US Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources, reported that the US and Iran have "agreed in principle" to negotiations, but the date and location of the talks have not yet been determined.

Regarding Iran, according to Xinhua News Agency, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said it is impossible to "fully accept" the US proposal. Iranian media reported on the 15th that the spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry said the US had proposed a package plan and wanted Iran to "fully accept." The US knows "this is not possible" and it does not fit the logic of negotiations and dialogue.

According to CCTV News, the US and Iranian negotiating representatives have made progress in the latest round of talks, and are gradually moving closer to reaching a framework agreement to end the conflict. However, several US officials stressed that given the significant differences, a final agreement is not guaranteed.
