xAI is further expanding the boundaries of its AI assistant Grok by launching Build Mode, which features real-time generation capabilities, joining the competition in the field of AI programming and development tools.

On Tuesday, xAI announced that its AI assistant Grok officially launched Build Mode. Users can simply describe their needs in natural language, and Grok will generate runnable websites, applications, games, or interactive data dashboards in real time within the chat interface, allowing one-click sharing through links for others to access.

This feature is currently available in Early Beta to SuperGrok Heavy subscription users, supporting web, iOS, and Android platforms.

The launch of Build Mode marks xAI’s move to extend Grok from a Q&A and content generation tool to an end-to-end development platform. This positioning puts it in direct competition with AI programming tools such as Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot, Anthropic’s Claude, and OpenAI’s GPT.

xAI emphasizes that Build Mode covers a broad range of use cases:

For websites: landing pages, personal portfolios, and corporate sites; for applications: practical tools with real states and logic, such as planners, trackers, calculators, simulators, and internal efficiency tools; for games: generates arcade racing games, puzzle games, and interactive 3D worlds; for interactive dashboards: Grok can connect to users’ business data and transform it into real-time, filterable chart views.

After content is generated, users can publish their work to a grok.me link or bind it to their own custom domain, then share the link with team members or any external users. This publishing mechanism lowers the barrier to distribution, giving Build Mode-generated content greater business viability.

Limited access for Heavy subscribers

Currently, Build Mode is in early Beta testing, only open to SuperGrok Heavy subscription users.

Users can access the feature by selecting the "Build" entry on grok.com or in Grok’s mobile app mode switcher. xAI has not disclosed the specific timeline for wider user access, nor whether Build Mode will be released as a standalone subscription tier or included in existing packages.
