Yuanbao has finally torn down WeChat’s highest wall.

On May 13, Tencent’s AI-native app Yuanbao announced official support for summarizing WeChat chat records, marking that Yuanbao’s integration with WeChat scenarios has entered deep waters. However, in actual operation, this integration appears extremely cautious.

According to Yuanbao's official operating procedure, users must manually select chat records in WeChat, click "Forward to other applications," then choose Yuanbao and copy-paste the content into the dialog box. Yuanbao then provides intelligent summary, analysis, and other services.

Compared to Yuanbao's seamless integration with QQ, enabling one-click "chat summaries," the permissions granted by WeChat are still set within the isolated framework of "user-initiated selection and cross-app forwarding."

This cumbersome cross-app process reflects Tencent's consistent caution in safeguarding WeChat, its core social position, maintaining its restraint and purity as a social tool for acquaintances.

At Tencent’s employee conference earlier this year, Ma Huateng also made it clear that the AI all-in-one suite may not be liked by everyone. WeChat will continue to adhere to "decentralization" to balance privacy and user experience.

Thus, as the central hub of Tencent, WeChat has always been very conservative in AI transformation.

Although WeChat previously introduced AI search, allowed Yuanbao to become a WeChat contact, and entered the comment sections of Official Accounts and Video Accounts, the overall AI transformation has been relatively slow.

Tencent management previously revealed at the Q3 2025 financial report that WeChat will eventually launch an AI agent to help users accomplish many tasks inside WeChat using AI.

But as things stand, WeChat has not chosen to rush ahead with this exploration.

WeChat needs to defend, while Yuanbao, as Tencent’s vanguard for winning the super entrance in the AI era, must charge ahead.

Since 2025, Yuanbao has shifted from its previous solo advances to deep integration with the Tencent ecosystem, but judging from the monthly active data of the independent app, Yuanbao still faces considerable pressure.

According to QuestMobile, in March 2026, the top three Doubao, Qianwen, and DeepSeek had monthly active users of 340 million, 166 million, and 127 million respectively, while Yuanbao ranked fourth with 57.346 million.

However, in terms of user stickiness, Yuanbao performs better than Qianwen. In Q1 2026, Doubao had an average of 54.8 uses per user per month, DeepSeek reached 41.7 times, Kuai Dui AI had 27.6 times, Yuanbao 25.9 times, and Qianwen 19.8 times.

Next, improving the foundational large model capabilities and providing a better product experience to increase user activity remains Yuanbao’s core task.
